Issues with U22?

I was kind of curious if the "bugs" that people had been having were addressed and fixed? I am looking at upgrading from my U9H to the 22 within a monyh or so and was hoping that by them everything will be fixed and I'll get a unit without any problems. Is this a safe assumption or am I kidding myself? I would think that units shipped a month out would have have updated firmware and tweaks adjusted etc. Thanks

I'll get a unit without any problems.
Maybe in Utopia but on planet earth there is no such thing as a unit without problems

On a serious note, F003 is around the corner with a lot of the bugs ironed out, I have no doubt that in a month or so when you do decide to upgrade that the U22 will be a very attractive option. And with the Minix track record this unit will undoubtably continue to be improved over time.

I really hope that the issues with the u22XJ are sorted. I’m a long term supporter of the minix android boxes, I have a few X8, U1’s,U9-H and a T5 as well as the U22XJ. I must say that I am disappointed in the U22XJ at present as it feels and works like an over sized android mobile phone without a SIM card. Even the settings refer it as a phone. I thought I was going to get a replacement/ upgrade for the U9-H ( Which I love) as per Minix’s releases. My U22XJ doesn’t at times recognise the internet through my Ethernet connection and I have to manually force the Ethernet connection, apps on the google store are basically for mobile phones only and my A3 remote is temperamental as I have to wave it at the tv like a wand in a Harry Potter movie. Yes the colours look vibrant and the sound quality appears much better, however that is about it when it comes to talking about the U22XJ in a positive light. Please let me know if there are upgrades that will allow this box to function as a true android TV box of do I just have to settle with my U9-H and T5 boxes?

My understanding is that the Minix T5 is a true 'android TV' box, and that the U22-XJ is intended to be an over sized android phone without a SIM card that I have bought to replace my U9-H as the central media/smart control hub of my home, with the assurance that I would be able to easily download and use the same Google Play Store apps as on my phone. I hoped the settings would refer to it as a phone, so that it provides as near a 'android phone in a box' experience as possible, I would not wish Minix to spend any time and money making it less like a phone, and while it has a few initial 'teething problems', for me it delivers what I have been hoping for, if the U22-XJ was a true android TV box I would not have bought one.

As I understand it, the T5 is the android TV box, not the U22-XJ.

Personally, I don't like android at all. It's fine as a smartphone OS, after all, that is what it was intended to be. But as an OS for other devices, it just leaves me cold. For that reason I do not run android on my X8-Plus, U1 or U9-H. I run a Linux based OS known as CoreElec, which really just acts as a minimalist shell for Kodi. Try it, you might like it.

You can run CoreElec from an SD card to try it out, without having to replace android. Currently CoreElec is not available for the U22-XJ, but give it time.

Fascinating the way different people use these boxes, I have played around with Kodi but have not been able to think of anything I might use it for so have uninstalled it, and have struggled to understand the purpose of CoreElec, so thanks for your explanation that it 'really just acts as a minimalist shell for Kodi', I get it now?.

As Marty mentioned, we'll be releasing 003FW via OTA firmware update shortly.
This shall then be followed by another OTA firmware update in May to fix other remaining bugs.
NEO U22-XJ shall continue to improve with new bug fixes and added features over time.

Does that 003 fw update bump up the processor speed to its full potential? I’ve seen others notice that the U22 chip isn’t running at full speed at the moment. It has the same S922XJ chip as a competitor box that I’ve recently purchased, but that one is maximising the chip speed and has it running at full 2.2ghz speed that it’s capable of.
One of the mods here posted that they have bumped up the chip speed a bit in the upcoming fw releases, but is it a decent bump?

EDIT-Not allowed mention the names of competitor boxes on here no? Seems a lot of posts on here are immediately edited by mods. Another reason I’m on the fence about buying another Minix box.

It's in the very opening paragraph of the forum rules that you never bothered to read

The basic ground rules for discussions on Minix Official Forum are simple: be polite, use common sense, don't break the law and don't post any message that even hints at advertising or promote other products or forums.

Do us all a favor by getting off the fence and go for whatever tickles your fancy, it's a free world and no one is forcing you towards Minix.

Ok, my bad. I didn’t see the forum rules. I don’t think they’d be the first place people would look to when asking for tech advice about any product. But fair enough.

What I didn’t like, and have been noticing here is the condescending and snotty attitude that some of the higher ups have on here.
When I asked my question earlier, which still hasn’t been answered, I was still able to receive a snotty reply from you about in the meantime.

I have been a Minix customer for many years now, owning a few boxes ranging from the X8 and the U9 that I was always happy with for the most part. And I had every intention to buy a U22 when it was released a few weeks ago.
It seemed that the release for it was a bit of a clusterfck from the start, and yes I’m aware of the virus situation, that’s not what I’m on about. Just the box cpu running or set at a lower speed and the various critical bugs that it has been experiencing so far.
Then seeing other people on here getting banned from this place for trying to ask about bugs and report bugs has left a sour taste in my mouth.

There is a few really helpful people on here, it’s not all bad, and have answered any questions and help I’ve needed in the past. But there’s some on a massive power trip and it’s just not a good way to sell a product and maintain a good customer relationship. That’s my two cents.

Perhaps not & you're undoubtedly not alone there, but it's not a bad place to start when you first created your forum account itself right lol ;)!!??

It seems there are still bugs to work out. I guess I am really spoiled with my UH9 because I have had absolutely no problems with it and have had it well over a year. I only use it to stream media from different sources. I don't use it as a mini computer, which I know it isn't. So not sure if the 22 is right for me. The only reason I was considering it was that it seems the UH9 isn't supported as much, no new firmware updates etc. I might be wrong. There might be other options out there to consider for how I use it. I have been impressed with Minix. Thanks

You see it as snotty, I see it as a gentle nudge and it worked, I see you edited your post after climbing off the fence and taking the leap, well done :D

Now that the fw 003 has been released can anyone answer my question?

Not that I can see but I have put the question forward to Minix and await clarification.

Remember it's the only stock Android box with Dolby Vision so if you want DV like I do, it's the obvious choice
