No, that's not normal behavior. I updated and did not experience this. When you say, everything is erased, do you mean apps / and app data, or do you mean it's booting up like a new device where you need to enter your Google account, wifi pass etc...?
 
I can't speak for @midnight, but I took the update OTA. I didn't run into any issues. You don't seem to be alone though. Others have mentioned it happening.

How long have you had your units? This is the 2nd OTA update that was pushed. I'm curious if this happened with the first update as well?
 
i didn't loose any apps, data or login data after installing the update

BTW
My remark for the power button : going into settings - tv settings brings up the possiblility to define the power button.
Afterwards :
Press the powerbutton shortly is effected by this setting
Press the powerbutton longer gives a popup screen with 2 option : reboot or make a screenshot
 
the power button still didn't work as I wanted it, so again I wrote support.

This is what I got back

We didn’t notice this pop-up window until you told us.

I can’t say this is a bug, it’s more likely to be a hidden feature.

I will told our engineer to add “Shutdown” and “Sleep” option to this pop-up windows in the next fimware version.

Hi what you mean by that?

We have powerkey definition in tv settings/droid settings.
We have sleep now, shutdown, restart functions and it works very well.

One press on IR power button - device does what you have set in powerkey definitions.
Long press on IR power button - we have two options: restart and screenshot.

And I want a power off on the long press ........ they will look into that

BTW The long press wasn't something they know at support
