Well i also thought about it, but the thing is wifi networks are discovered without any issue..... are they using the same antenna and device right?
Im trying to pair a headset Soundlink II AE2. I updated the Bose firmware and the Neo U1 firmware too.... i also posted in Bose forum.
I will update here if i get any aditional info.

Have you to check the location status is "on"?
Bose's power/bluetooth button is set to “Bluetooth” position? Can find other Bluetooth devices? (eg: Bluetooth mouse or mobile phone). If yes, try to clear the headphone memory. (see attach) If you still can't find Bose, I think it may be a compatibility issue.

...I would like to pair a Bose bluetooth headset with minix neo u1, but when i try to link them, it fails...

Please check that you followed all these steps:

1. You turned on the headset getting a blue and a green lights in the bluetooth and battery leds.

2. Press the large "Multifunction" button on the side and the "plus sign" button simultaniously until the blue led turns purple.

3. In the U1, turn the bluetooth "on" in the Settings menu. This will cause the U1 to find the "bose ae soundlink" which you have to select for pairing.
(if it asks you for a passkey you have to write 0000). After this step the bluetooth purple led should now be solid blue. If not, try again the previous steps.

4. Go back to the U1 Settings Menu starting page. This time choose "Audio" and inside it choose "Sound Devices" and in there "Output Devices" and then select "bose ae soundlink".

These procedures apply to the Bose AE2, other Bose models have different switches. Please let us know. Good Luck!

The Location was off. I just enabled it. But still no luck.

I cant get the purple led. When i long press '+' and 'multifunction' buttons, just get asked about setting the english. '+' will move to the next language.
However I did long press on the power button and i managed to clear all the stored devices list.

I think the problem is in the Minix Neo U1 more than in the headset. I could pair de headset with any phone or laptop at home.
However the behaviour of Minix its weird. When i first tried, i couldnt find any bluetooth device. After restarting few times and retrying, i could see the LE-Bose Headset discovered. But failed pairing. And now im back to square one, and i cant find any bluetooth device :cry:

I am considering to buy a USB bluetooth dongle to connect it to Minix, but im not sure if it will work and how to select to use it instead the default one.

Edit: After restarting Minix i can find again LE-Bose AE2 SoundLink. I got prompted about enabling Location for all the apps. I said yes. But when pairing the same error "cant connect with LE-Bose"

Edit2: I tried to connect a portable speaker, Samsung EO-SG930. It detects only the hardware address (no name) and fails to pair.

My Minix Neo U1 version is 5.1.1 with firm LMY47V.20170629.

I cant get the purple led...

Purple led is mandatory, that is what defines the headset to be in pairing mode.

Please also make sure the headphones are nor connected to the charger or it won't work.

I am now very confused about that menu that you get prompted for enabling location for all the apps. Never saw that to happen with any headphones being paired. No idea what that can be...

When pairing with other devices i get a blinking blue light.

Sorry for the confusion. Ill try to explain it better. I activated location services since it was disabled. Right after restart a popup menu asked me that i had disabled location services in a previous version and that if i wish to enable for all the google services, i answered yes. I think its not related with the bluetooth issue, but just in case wanted to share it.

The blue blinking led is the initial condition, you have to go into pairing mode as in the video below. Please note the video doesn't concern a Minix box, I chose it to show the required purple led mode, as far as I can read over and over I couldn't find anyone saying it can be paired without it.

Mines are the Soundlink II model. I guess they changed the purple led. I paired them before with 2 samsung phones and 1 asus laptop and never got a purple light....

I feel the issue its not with the Bose headset or the pairing method. As i posted before, I tried to pair minix with a samsung EO-SG930 external speaker and prompts the same error message "it cant establish comunication with...."

Could it be a software issue? The lastest firm is the one i have installed? LMY47V.20170629.

Mines are the Soundlink II model...".

As @Villa suggested, it is a good idea:
Slide the power switch to the Bluetooth® symbol and hold for 10 seconds until you hear “Bluetooth device list cleared".

Sorry, I should have suspected something related with the model was up names are pretty close... Also, it was almost 6am here and I had to switch off.

Your model should be simpler to pair... Yes, that's the latest firm in the Minix, and that is compatible with the latest bluetooth tech devices. It is hard to believe it to be on the Minix side because I have experienced the connection of a number of headphones in a wide range of prices and quality and never had any issues. The normal difficulty on the Minix side is people forgetting to select the phones from de devices out menu after pairing as the sounds out is not automatic.

The above should be consistent with your model. But please, first of all, try the procedure that @Villa recommended.

Edit:
I recall, since it seems that the bluetooth in the Minix ocasionally detects the headphones and sometimes it doesn't, that trying to deal with bluetooth devices very close to a wifi router or USB3 connections is told to cause interferences, could that be it?...

Seems it gets bugged after many tries on/off bluetooth and trying to discover devices. But when i search right after restarted it always detects the Bose and the Samsung speaker. But cant pair.

There is a Wifi router, an Odroid (similar to raspberryPI) and a TV pretty close... less than 20 cm. Actually all those devices are taped to the back of the TV. Minix also has attached a USB dongle for a wireless mouse.... i will try to do tests by turning off all those devices. Im pretty sure the problem is with Minix (either software or as you said interferences). The Bose pair smoothly with 2 phones, and 1 laptop. Only issues with minix. The other devices also pair easily with the Samsung speaker. And Minix fails again pairing the samsung speaker.

Thank you so much for all your comments, suggestions and help. I really appreciate it. I was about to give up, but i keep fighting because of your help. I ll keep you updated.

Hello again.

Seems pairing problem was indeed an interference issue. i placed the headset just on top the Minix and paired perfectly.
But i guess im cursed with this topic, and i still cant hear anything.

Should i selected in the output audio menu? there i can only see Auto and HDMI. And im not sure Minix has detected the Bose properly... it shows the headphones with a joystick icon....

Or your antenna is not properly attached. Try to reattach it. Possible it will work better.

Actually I would beg you to please go to this other settings menu. Make sure the headphones are on (not the pairing mode, the normal "on"). Choose the Bluetooth, find the "Bose AE2 Soundlink" and click on it to connect. Although that black icon is not what I would expect I think you are very close to the solution. If it connects, then you can go to that black Settings page and Audio Output Devices where it must show :
