U9-H-CE FW001 Android 7.1.2 20191120 [Community Edition Nougat Firmware]

Hi,
I have maybe a stupid question but am wondering why we don’t have an automatic update in ours devices.
I mean, minix neo u9-h cost 200 euros with android 6. When we spend this price, updating must be as good as the price. I have to spend Time to find an update myself here, to do the staff my self and am not sure that this will works. Am not ok with this, for this price the campany must give us à better services, its just unbelevable. In plus the update stop at android version7.
I don’t understand.

Totally agree. This is not only the case with the u9 but with all versions.

Hi i from singapore, i bought minix neo u9-h. Can i upgrade to this firmware? Does it work well? Sorry a noob here tks

You could flash this firmware and see if you like. The flashing process can be funky make sure you have a good cable otherwise failure during flashing occurs.

Thanks to the people behind this, I got a cheap U9 and installed it last week.

Anyone who tried both this and the SBX AOSP from here:

Which is better? I'm wondering if I should switch to AOSP 9.8 (which I believe is Pie?) or stick to Nougat CE. Doing the USB hardware mod wouldn't be an issue.

I have been using slimboxTV for a few months now and it is definitely a winner. The positive is that it is android 9, and it does supports many of the current TV apps. It's also very zippy compared to the CE edition. On the con side, it does not power off but rather sleeps. I simply unplug it when I want full power off.

Thanks, I'll have to try. Although I'm not keen on Android TV, so will try the AOSP one.
I've flashed both just to see if they work.

I want to like Android TV but I just keep coming back to AOSP!
Another reason why our 2015 Shield has had so very little use over the years.

Although we do use a Fire TV stick daily!

Hello, i tried many times install 7.1.2 on U9 but every time it fails. Does not matter if i use the USB Burning Tool or via usb directly to U9 i get failures. Is there any detailed guide or alternative method?

Minix official have effectively abandoned ship and lost all respect for and from their customers.

There has been no effective support or updates from them for a year or so now .

Incredulous behavior.
After a couple years of buying minix, i defintely said good bye to it.
minix is a great prodcut in the beginning, but no updates! and after 2 3 years, you cannot install new apps because of old version of android. and if you are lucky some developpers outside the firm comes with a custom firmware ! i just buy buy the nvidia shield pro and i am very happy with it (constant support and updates)
no more 1000 hours spending in installing custom firmwares of things like that!

Is there source available for U9-H-CE_FW001-Android_7.1.2? Is this Community Edition open source? If so, where is the repo? Or was it composed of bits and pieces of compiled code from other packages.

Hi, I installed the U9-H-CE_FW001-Android_7.1.2 firmware, but now I have a problem in Kodi. Resolution and Whitelist only shows 1920x1080p (60Hz). Before I had the various choices my TV supports. If I set the Display option in Minix to HDMI Self Adaptation and play a movie in 23.976 fps, Kodi plays it at very low fps, jumping frames. If I switch off Self Adaptation it plays at 60 fps. The result is better but not optimal.
Is this a problem of the firmware? Is there a workaround?

The problem, seems to me, to be in the firmware. It's not Kodi fault, because it works perfectly with FW008. Curiously, the firmware reads the EDID information from the TV and builds the disp_cap file with the correct resolutions and refresh rates, but is unable to pass this info to Kodi.
For whom it could interest, I will explain what I did as a workaround.
In MINIX I set Display Resolution to Auto and HDMI Self-adaption On, and leave all the related settings in Kodi to Off. Then I use MX Player (from within Kodi). MX Player can switch the refresh rate to match the fps of the video when it starts, and set it back to default when it stops. If I want to see videos with the Kodi player at 1080p@60Hz, then I switch off HDMI Self-adaption.

Is that something you could get Tasker or Macrodroid to do for you?
