U9-H with FW008, issues with system startup, Kodi 18.4 (movie play and YouTube plugin too)

Hi,

I purchased a used U9-H and I am continuously having issues with it:
- when the system loads, I got an error message, that 'System process is not responding', would I like to wait or close it
This happens before the Metro launcher loads.

- using Kodi 18.4: movies start playing fine, at some point video and audio starts to be out of sync, video freezes, Kodi either crashes (closes and message appears: Unfortunately Kodi stopped working) or playback stops, etc
XMBC for MINIX 16.3 is even worse, it usually crashes while browsing the video library...

- YouTube plugin for Kodi: pretty similar issues as when playing video: youtube video freezes, audio and video out of sync (in this case it needs to be stopped an restarted, which might help)

What might be wrong here? Should I reflash the box with FW008 or clear cache or anything, that might help?

@vuk if you kodi add-ons to watch tv-shows/movies you may have issues.
Tell us more details:
-Wifi or ethernet?
-streaming local or ethernet?
Etc....

It is normal if you use kodi add-ons to watch movies/tv-shows the box gets slower with time (all data is saved to the device), ... etc

Do not use youtube plugin for kodi.

Have you tried a factory reset?

not yet, good idea!
by factory reset you mean from the android menu or from the recovery menu?

Do not use youtube plugin for kodi.

wifi, 5ghz
streaming from NAS, it worked perfectly via U1 and XMBC for MINIX 16.3

regarding the youtube plugin... it's one of the features I use the U9-h, so this is not really an option

The message on start that the system process isn't responding is purely an annoyance, it doesn't actually affect anything. My first U9-H experienced it on every start until I got around to carrying out a factory reset ;).

I also experienced it again more recently but cleared some caches & it quickly disappeared again.

In the U9-H's settings, go to apps & try clearing the caches ONLY for the following. (I cleared all at the same time so can't be 100% certain which one actually cleared it.)

Android System
Android System Webview (all 3 options)
Droidlogic System
System UI
System Update

Alternatively, clear the entire system cache if you wish.

I also have an app called File Commander (FK) that updated & possibly triggered this event. I cleared the cache for that too along with the others above.

If it's a used model. Have you tried at least clearing the cache & data for Kodi or uninstalled/reinstalled Kodi as well?

Get a fresh start & then reload your favourite add-ons etc.

As has already been suggested, have you considered a factory reset before resorting to reflashing too? (You can do it from "backup & reset" in the system settings or use the recovery menu.) Chances are it'll clear these issues ;).

Do then a factory reset. If you streaming from a NAS is less problematic (and the better option).
You can a factory reset from the android menu.

If you can use rj45 instead of wifi...

@vuk because you use 5Ghz wifi your internet speed is good enough. You can try rj45 and see is there any differences.
It depends :
-streaming from NAS (4k file for example)
-distance to router
-etc...

That is why i said if he can try with ethernet.

Wifi ac is fast but is always better using cable.

I re-flashed Fw008 (actually I tried CE 7.1.2, but it was so slow, that I quickly went back to FW008), when I got the box.
I am going to do a factory reset and maybe install Kodi 17.6 instead of 18.4........

@notrui2 I know but 5Ghz wifi is really fast.20 meters from my router and internet speed is almost the same.He can use ethernet because cable is 100% sure thing.

I am talking more in local network speed , internet speed is other thing.

It is my personal preferences:
Cable for almost everything and wifi basically for mobile devices.

Streaming from ethernet (play, fast forward, etc) is much faster with cable.

And yes he can try cable and see the difference.

Since i have this setup (several years ago ☺):
cable for almost everything except almost mobile devices i have zero problems and everything is fast ☺

Yes it is your personal preferences. My personal preferences is 5Ghz wifi.In old days with original Xbox for FTP movies,Tv shows and music i had to pull 20 meters crossover cable. There are still enthusiasts for XBMC for original Xbox on page XBMC4Xbox?

What are your source files?

Kodi often struggles with some older .AVI files desynching etc., for example.

@ArcticWolf source files are mkv (x264), avi (xvid) or very few DVD9

I sticked with streaming via wifi, the access point is in the same room as the U9, so no issues with signal.

@vuk kodi 18.4 works fine with newer files , mkv for example.
You may have issues with Some older sd files, avi for example.
I had issues with some older files and what i did was :
-I found other files and replaced with newer ones (my personal and favorite choice for me)

Other options:
-you can do that or convert that file.
-you can try use other kodi version (v.17 for example) or even minix XBMC version.

There are users that have installed kodi and minix xbmc version.

So, I reflashed the box with FW008.
Before that did a factory reset.

Now installed Kodi 17.6, but problem is the same: movie starts playing without issue (720p or 1080p mkv), then it freezes, Kodi is unresponsive.
I cannot even watch a movie from the beginning to the end...
I am done with minix, selling the device and getting something else.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's input.

Where are you sourcing these files? Do you have any samples etc.?

Have you installed a build or heavy add-ons to Kodi?

Are you using Kodi's default settings or have you made significant changes?

The problem you're experiencing is highly irregular. I have several thousand h.264/265 MKVs & I haven't experienced an issue with any of them. Countless users use Kodi on a U9-H without issues as well.

Have you enabled component specific logging in Kodi's system settings & installed the log viewer for Kodi? This may point to an obvious problem.

You could also enable the debug logging to see if a huge amount of RAM or CPU is suddenly being used for no apparent reason.

Which protocol are you using to stream from the NAS? NFS, SMB or DLNA?

What apps have you installed on the U9-H?

Invariably issues like this are down to bad sources, misconfiguration, conflicts or other software issues, or connectivity issues (WiFi, source hardware, etc.).

If you've had enough then fair enough but the same issues (if present) could affect another device too.

I would not be so quick to blame the device.Have you checked out your internet speeds and what kind of router are you using? A slow connection and outdated router will cause all sorts of issues.
