Yesterday the youbtube app do not start and a message inform the ap has been discontinued and to use a web browser.
Even using the browser (Chrome) maximum I can watch video limited to 360p.

Any suggestion?

Using NewPipe is ok, but you can also try this:

Remove (uninstall) the YouTube app from the U1. Get back to the Google Playstore and search for the YouTube app. Install it from there and allow the required accesses it asks for.

The issue is affecting Android 5 devices, exactly as you said, but this solution should get it back to work.

Brand new on the market, Grayjay which supports multiple hosts so I have been testing it with Youtube and Rumble, have to say I am impressed:
=> Grayjay

I have uninstalled the youtube app and then I had to get the apk from another place because Youtube is no longer available on Google Playstore for our Android version.
BTW for the youtube app to keep working you don't need to completely remove it and install it again, just deleting the Youtube Application Data is enough. You will have to do that everytime you get the message about how your youtube version is discontinued.

Yes, the erasure of the app away from the PlayStore for Android 5 devices is an unfortunate update apparently as from today.

An option might be to back it up with a backup app to a safe place where you can install it back when needed (while it still works) or get NewPipe or try an internet browser for Youtube.com. Android 5 is more and more likely to become unable to deal with updates and more and more apps will not work in the future. That is a fate of all software and hardware, turning into legacy stuff. 😖

Edit: This one (Smarttube) will also (still) work: https://smarttubeapp.github.io/

It doesn't work on our Minix U1. It seems to require Android 10+
As @CybeRider said all software/hardware will become obsolete at some time.

I use a combination of smartube and youtube (android tv version)

Note: (device u22xj-max)
Sometimes you need to change/use from smartube to another app (my case youtube ATV), because smartube app don't always work at 100%.

Please try that link above provided by @CybeRider
It is a excelent app with regular updates.

If for some reason smartube don't work well:
-restart your U1
-i use google account
smartube can give you stream problems (and other problems), try sign in into an internet browser (you also can use your PC), after you done that you can use again smartube without stream issues.

Having said that the best app for me at the moment is smartube (the GUI is excelent (much better than for example youtube ATV version, and you have many options)

Initially, reinstalling worked for a couple of days, but after I've removed and uninstalled the app a few times I ended up resetting my U1. Still, Play Store doesn't give me the option to install anymore. But I noticed that after the reset, quite a few apps that I was using happily until now, aren't available for installing for this Android version. So my advice is - don't reset your Neo U1 unless you're willing to sacrifice some of the other apps.
BTW, since the issue is Android 5 Lollipop, any chance of upgrading the Android version on these devices?

The chance is to try (at your own risk - standard recommendation) the unofficial ROM for the U1 posted in the forum:

Read the concerning forum items carefully so you know what to expect.

Regarding apps that you couldn't find in the Playstore there are a few websites that have previous versions of some common apps:

- F-droid.org
- www.oldversion.com

Avoid any ROMs posted or advertised as being made for the U1 in other forums or websites as the Minix box will very likely get bricked to no avail.

Hi. Please see this thread : (old, from 2018)

Notes:
-I never tested but it seems to work
-i don't own a U1 device
-please read carefully and use it at your own risk.
-see the bugs and install only if you need
-i don't know if the download file works
