CoreELEC - MINIX U9-H

Can you use the usb tool to flash this rom?
Don't know if the tool can flash it.
I recommend to not flash the rom and use a microSD card or USB. For around 10 euros you have a 32 or 64 GB and will save lot of time and trouble.
Put it in and you go on custom rom, take it out you are back to MINIX defaut. There is no better option for this in my opinion

Coreelec doesn't have kodi 17.6
I run latest RC2 it's good to use.

You need to clone download the entire tree directory als zip.
Select [ clone or donwload ] then select als .zip. In zip file you find all device-trees you need pick the u-9
Or download the .tar file.
Use it to write kodi on SD /USB and also when you unzip this the device tree is in it. (this one I used and it works)

Read the install instructions on first page

The problem with Kodi Leila is that with some addons (for example Exodus), the search function does not always work.
This is not the fault of kodi, it's the addon(s) which have not yet been updated to Kodi Leila...

Think best to use MINIX android kodi 17.6 for those addons then. ( I pull out my sd card and im good to go, but not use it often)
Soon Kodi 18 final release will come out because RC2 already here (last rc before kodi goes final). Then addons should be made correctly for Kodi 18 in future I guess.

I was able to fix the search issue with the following tutorial
works for all adding that are a Covenant fork, such as Covenant, Exodus, and Incursion....

I did read them, that's where I got the links. I'm not brilliant with this stuff I'm 60 but I'm trying to learn. I appreciate all the help I get.
I found a file on the coreelec forum alreeidy named dtb.img. I followed the instructions using this one and got it to boot up and while I initially had to go through the setup a couple of times it boots into Leia.
Once in Leia I can install zip files but once I try to install from repository I get error msg. No matter what repoisitory I try and install from I get same error.
Now I know how to get the dtb file I will try again and see if it makes any difference to my kodi problems
Cheers

The installation instructions are only for new installation of CE (kodi 18 rc2) on the SD card.
So only for new installation you need rename a tree file to dtb.img (only first time)
Once you have kodi installed you can't do anything in repository for the other installation files of CE this repository section is only for add ons in kodi not update or installation of CE
So if you have installed kodi Leia you already set and good to go

I'm ok with kodi, I was trying to add my favoutite video addons but Leia will not let me add anything. I have used Leia before but just like the CDTV build so 17.6 for me.
Thanks for your help but I give up, yersterday I could get coreelec to load but problems with kodi, today after following both sets of install instructions, it hangs on boot up and just freezes forcing me to pull power chord.
It was fun trying something different though, I learnt from my experience.
Cheers

I have problems with Coreelec (with Standard Definition films in 420 had a lot of judder ans it's impossible to watch)
I have the standard settings in Kodi (including display refresh rate activate to start/stop video) that run perfectly in libreELEC
Does anyone know why?
Sony KD55XF9005
Logitech Harmony 700
Thanks a lot

Hi, just bought a Minix u9-H, and will install CE this evening. This device will be used by the entire family, hence it needs to be easy to use, like dummy proof. I have been thinking about flashing CE to the internal memory for easy start up, but I feel it is a bit risky though.

I read something a while ago, I think it was wrxstasy over at the LE forum, that you can via SSH and Putty set the SD card as the boot device as deafult. Is it something that you guys use, or am on deep water here? There might a risk that I am wrong, however, any feedback would be appreciated.

Just put CE on microSD card and put it into your MINIX. when installaed and booting up the device 1 second of MINIX logo will apear en then booting up to CE and you are good to go for Kodi.
Press out the SD card and voila back to origanal MINIX. don't see advance to change this procedure.
this way you don't have any risk and always have fall back.

Thanks for your response, d-vine! But I guess that this is manual way of getting into CE every time after the initial installation ? I need to press and hold the button every time I start? It is not an issue itself, I would probably be able teach my 3 year old boy to do that. But my intention is to hide the box in a furniture, which will cause a bit more hassle. I intend to use my Harmony Hub to interact with the box in the furniture.

what makes you think it is so neccessary to install CE ?
Thanks for your response pusb87. I will do that beacuse I can! :)
Jokes aside, I do not wish to have the Android TV interface at all, I only want Kodi. I think we can discuss good and bad things about this all day, but I sincerely think that Kodi is better as an OS rather than an app in Android TV.

But I am all ears and open for suggestions!!

have you looked at XBL >> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.blunden.xbmclauncher&hl=en_GB&showAllReviews=true

this should give you the capability to simply automatically launch kodi when you start up your minix as the homescreen

btw Kodi is not an OS

Well, Call it what you like. What I am after is that it is the only SW installed. I am not referring to Kodi, rather the forks like LE and CE, which I consider an OS.

I think Kodi forks on Android have some issues switching colorspace etc when you mix SD and 4K content.

@pusb87, I understand that this is a Minix forum, but do you realize the name of the thread refers to the Kodi fork called Coreelec?
I just read more about Coreelec, since I have been more familiar with Openelec and Libreelec. Guess what I found on the homepage?

"CoreELEC is a ‘Just enough OS’ Linux distribution for running Kodi® on popular Amlogic hardware." Just enough OS, have about that?!?!?! ;)

absolutely, and CE is based on a minimal linux OS distribtion running the linux version of Kodi..

i was only trying to help with a suggestion for running Kodi on Android and for you not to have to see the android startup home screen ....

the choice is entirely yours in which way you want to proceed.....
