Impossible scrolling with air mouse

Looks like multiple changes occurred at the same times. Making it even trickier to fix. I remember few years back the Mozilla/Android/Firefox folks reintroduced these AirMouse problems. It took a while to fix. After spending the evening researching, I'm starting to feel we might have issues on both ends (Apps AND OS). And since I'm not technical enough to word the bug narrative properly, it's hard to be taken seriously. I opened on bug on Mozzilla/Android/Firefox yesterday and they closed it 5 seconds later, refering it to an open since 2019 Chromium bug. If it's known and unresolved since 2019. They why the heck everything was fine until I updated my U22 to 005FW. :-( I think I'm gonna cry.

Unfortunately, the problem does not concern only browsers but many other apps. I think the problem can be solved by Minix / Amlogic at the firmware level ... in this thread it emerged that other Android 9 boxes do not have this problem.
Marty also analyzed the firmware of the android 9 box with working scrolling and found out what could be causing this problem and invited MINIX - John, MINIX - Martin to investigate with the Minix / Amlogic developers.
I have not yet installed the 005 firmware (I tried but the update was not successful and now the box does not start anymore, always remaining in recovery mode even restarting the box, I have to try to load the new firmware manually) but it seemed to understand from your comment that the problem has not yet been solved.
Since the developers do not comment on this problem I wonder if they intend to solve it or not ...

I'm not excusing this bug but another very good option is FX File Explorer.which presently doesn't appear to have any issues.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx

I'm not certain what the app developers are changing/improving in these apps but it would appear that maybe something needs to change also in the firmware to keep up with them.

@Marty has freely used his own time to try and find out what needs to be implemented.

Thanks for mentioning FX File Explorer that I had not heard of, seems to work great so far.

This is driving me nuts. Things were working fine with Firefox and then it somehow got automatically updated to the latest version today and now I can't scroll anymore. Is there any browser which would let me scroll with the NEO U22-XJ?

Turn off auto updates in Google Play and download the previous version of Firefox.

Only older versions, see post 2 & 3 of this thread.

Thanks. I installed it, and still have the same problems as when FW004 came out. The improper stock KL configs for Airmouse and BT Physical Keyboards do not behave as they should.

Once I root the box, I will be able to recover my revised .KL files and apply them on FW005. Then I'll clearly see where are the interface problems are (OS, or Apps or Config(KL))

You can use UC browser, it's fine for me

FYI UC Browser comes from Alibaba Group Holding Limited, also known as Alibaba Group and as Alibaba.com, is a Chinese multinational technology company specializing in e-commerce, retail, Internet, and technology.

Do as you please with this information. Personally, my primary concern would be security.

Scrolling doesn't work for me with that, is there a setting within it that I need to change?

Also selecting a link seems to be offset vertically by quite a bit.

I'm sticking with Firefox 68.11.0.

I may be able to help here, i have tried many browsers and found none that work with click and drag but did find one that works perfect on my TV box, apart from click and drag working perfect i find most other functions of this browser are very good, it's fast, light, customisable etc...
UC Browser Turbo- Fast Download, Secure, Ad Block

Probably better to steer clear of that browser. It has had some bad press!

Also pointed out, a couple of posts up, by @minix4ever

I installed "Always visible scroll button" app and made it a bit transparent. Works well with any browsers and others.

Unfortunately, even with the new firmware (V006) the problem of scrolling with airmouse has not been solved. Many apps continue to be unusable and Minix A3 almost useless (the airmouse function). The frustration begins to be felt. For months I have been waiting to finally be able to use the box without stupid limitations. Minix X7 didn't have these limits, U1 either. The other two boxes I have taken full advantage of several hours a day, U22 I hardly turn it on because I could hardly do anything. For the moment, money wasted both for the box and for the airmouse

Lets be realistic here > the U22 is primarily intended and promoted as a media hub for home entertainment.

There are much better options for the applications you have mentioned such as word, excel ,adobe pdf etc

As you say Pusb87 this device is intended and promoted as a media hub and much better options are available and I have got all those upstairs in my office room, but in owning this my 3rd Minix Android box for use in my lounge downstairs what I have been looking for is a silent, compact, instant-on, low energy consumption, less mentally demanding device with all-purpose light computing capabilities, and the U22-XJ now so very nearly fully fulfills this role for me, without having to pay extra for a Windows or Apple etc. device likely with a fan, I feel its the apps not supplied by Minix that let it down.

Scrolling with the A3 air mouse worked in the search pages of previous versions of Chrome and Firefox, and in the UK, scrolling works on the front page of Chrome and the tabs page of Firefox Beta and Nightly, and in YouTube, Google Earth, BBC iPlayer, BBC Weather, Skype, ADB-S Exchange, Electricity Map, Ubiquiti Wifiman and other apps I use for hours most days with the A3 airmouse, so clearly scrolling can work perfectly well using the A3 and U22-XJ, and I therefore question if the scrolling issue is a Minix problem at all?

Copy/paste/search etc. that was lost in recent versions of Firefox has been restored in the latest versions by highlighting text with the A3 airmouse and pressing the airmouse up or down buttons, so in regard to Firefox, I have wondered if Minix who might have more influence than us individual users, could make representations to Mozilla possibly by making a short video to demonstrate that while scrolling works in the Firefox tabs page, it does not work in the search page, and ask them if they could fix this for us so that scrolling works in both, for then we would at least have one mainstream browser in which scrolling was fully working which would I feel be a big step nearer Minix lounge media hub and light computing device perfection.

That reminds me, the one problem I do have with iPlayer is if I go into the TV Guide I can't go back to previous days using the air mouse or direction keys and have to use search as a workaround to find what I'm looking for.

I happen to have a U22-XJ as the main "tv entertainment device" and I have to agree it makes my life much easier to go in websites and Youtube, and music player, and hundreds of pdf files for my guitar chords and lyrics, than having to go with heavier hardware. As simple as pushing a button, and in less than a minute, and free from all the anti-viruses and Windose updates hassling all the time, all is playing and running.

Nowadays I almost forgot about the computers sitting in the office. Besides not having the same light applications that we can have in a Minix box, it is not so handy to keep carrying a laptop and wires to connect it to the TV as I had for years... not really into that anymore.

I am writing this reply with a Minix Airmouse keyboard, and I even take care of my emails and most my text docs, which can be wirelessly sent to the printer in another room, with the Minix box. I am really happy with the extended possibilities of having this tiny device doing much more than just entertainment, and having it all displayed in an extra large screen.

How can someone live without all that?!

For a better copy/paste experience maybe you wish to try the Samsung Internet Browser, from the Google Playstore. I actually find it a bit more user friendly than any other web browser for those particular functions. In time you might even like it better than Firefox for the U22. ;)

What do you use for mail and documents? I would like to use them too if scrolling works. (on Gmail and Office it doesn't work). Samsung Internet Browser is unfortunately unusable due to the usual stupid scrolling problem ....
