this has happened like 4 times since i got the box last week. twice today while i kodi the box just SEEMS to shut down and the screen goes to the source screen on the tv. I have to unplug the box a cpl times and plug it back in before it restarts. hitting buttons on remote or box dosent do a thing. Any suggestions or solutions? I havent seen it happen using a apk but i usually use the box for kodi so ...i dunno yet if it happens outside of kodi

It's never happened to me. First, have you updated both the firmware to FW005 and Kodi to 18.8 (I believe it came with 18.7)? Is this happening when you are streaming from an addon or playing local content and are you using any kind of build or just stock Kodi?

just got the box last week and did all the updates to firmware and removed and installed kodi form play store as i did on my u0. usually happens when its searching for streams in an addon and yes am using a build. same build i have used for the last 3 yrs on my u9

Using any build (let alone a 3 year old build from another system), in all likelihood is at the root of your problem!!

Please try a completely fresh Kodi & then see if this issue persists. If it doesn't, obviously you can go from there by manually adding your preferred add-ons etc.

i have been using the same build for that period of time but it does get updated as i update the add ons regularly . it literally JUST happened again in a diff add on when i went to search for a stream in a tv show i have been watching. worst case i will remove the build and try add ons only to see if the build is the prob but i never had this problem with my u9

ok i removed the build. deleted kodi. installed a fresh copy of it and installed one add on. was working great till just now. i clicked on a show to watch. looked away a second. looked back and it had shut down/crashed. the blue light is still on but i have the no signal on my screen. the remote does nothing to turn the box off or restart it. I have to get up and put the power cord from the back and plug it back in to get the box to work again. VERY disappointed in this box. very frustrating to have to do this so often

the u22 may not have crashed and you may be suffering from the HDMI/CEC issues that many people have reported in the bugtracker thread and that Minix are aware off and should be seeking a resolution.

See if hot plugging the HDMI lead restores the signal and if you havent already disable CEC where you can.

Sorry?? what is hot plugging the HDMI lead? and where do i go to disable CEC?

pull the HDMI lead out of the U22 and put it back in again ( whilst the blue light is still on)

its in the minix settings somewhere ( cant remember exactly as not on the u22 at the moment) just go through all the settings options

i see CEC CONTROL and under that is CEC swithc (its on), one key play (its on) and device auto power off and auto change language and they are both off. should the two that are on be turned off?

just did. went back to try a show. chose it. it went through the sources. screen went black and i got the NO SIGNAL screen again....blue light stil on the box. if i use the tv remote to change back to the right source, noihting happens, have to pull the plug on the box again......so frustrated

then as a last resort i suggest trying a factory reset ( you will lose all apps and settings )

Nowadays you have far more flexibilty/options on TV's of HDR/DolbyVison/4K/Dolby Audio etc etc.

and so when installing something like the U22 you need to carefully go through all the settings to match your TV capability, and of course you also need to set up your TV/AVR likewise...its just how things are nowadays.

Now im not saying you dont have a problem ( as others have reported, my self included) but you do need to look at all the settings. Its not quite as simple as just plug in and play

My principle use is Kodi and for the time being I have been using Corelec on my U22, which is excellent, as it suffers much less from the current issues present on the current Android firmware.

That is not a normal behaviour.
Do a factory reset ( data/settings will be lost, apps you may have installed... ) and after that test kodi (with basic settings, don´t use unstrusted addons and untrusted apps...), and other apps (test that after a while)

If the problems remains you also can downgrade firmware (manual installation required)

or test coreelec: (you can use dual boot, coreelec is only for kodi)

thanks but this corelc thing seems to be alot of work for a box that should be working properly and would be afraid of messing up the box. if this persists i may, unfortunately have to return the box. hate to as i love minix

I agree with you.

The device must work well with the default firmware (in this case standard android OS, CoreElec in my option is just an user option, i don´t use CoreElec).
But do first a "stress test" and test the device some time, to be sure is not a user problem/configuration...

If your device continues to have issues the best thing to do is return the unit.
