Just tried to load the new firmware via FOTA and it failed.
I then tried with the Amlogic USB Burning Tool v2.2.0 it failed.
I noticed in Tdrfx's post he had used Amlogic USB Burning Tool v2.1.7.3. and this has worked.

Is "Certain formats not working correctly via HD audio pass-through " being prioritized? :) Just asking.
Yes, this is a priority and I have full confidence it'll be fixed.
However, it requires Amlogic's assistance. Amlogic have told us they will provide a fix, though I don't expect it'll be available in May.
We will keep users updated about this issue.

Yes, I used the 2.1.7.3 older tool and it worked from first try.
I know the instructions say 2.2.0 minimum but this appears to work OK, if it didn't I would have tried a newer one.

I downloaded again just for test and this time only took 5 minutes. It is much faster to download from wetransfer server, download speed is 1,5-2mbps compared to the minixforum speed of aprox 20kbps (6 hours time).
Thank you!
Try this :

It is a good download manager that i always use (when available).

Download link from minix forum was downloaded very quick last time i tried.

Hi John

My box is due to arrive tomorrow. Noting your comments above, do you recommend me waiting for another update fix, before plugging in the U22.
I am in no hurry now to use the new box and willcontinue with the U9h.

Regards

It's perfectly fine to go ahead & turn it on, & start configuring your new U22 with the pre-installed firmware Dak. Just be aware, it may look a little shabby to the more refined finish your used to with the U9-H & obviously it may not be 100% in certain areas until it is updated. However, in general they run fine. (We ran them for a while with the original FW & yes some users do have certain issues, but on the flip side, some experience very few issues too. Obviously, you really won't know until you do try :).)

After that, & once you've set your device up you can either kick back & wait for MINIX to work out the current issue with the FOTA system. (Then, when you do carry out the OTA update everything you've set up will be retained & in place already for you anyway.)

Or, your other option is a little trick I literally stumbled upon with the U9-H a while back. Basically, you can still set everything up on the U22 now, & still flash the newer firmware image as or when you do have access to a PC again too, (which would ordinarily wipe out all of your settings, apps, etc.).

However, follow my instructions in posts #15 & #18 here, it also works for the U22.

In this instance, credit to @Marty for being the first lemming over that particular cliff to try this trick with the U22, & to the other forum admins, mods or helpers who also went ahead & successfully tested it out too :) . (They all risked hours of setting everything back up from scratch on their U22's without a guaranteed outcome as well.)

It could save people a lot of time & messing around in the future :).

But, hopefully MINIX will have the glitch with the FOTA system rectified very quickly anyway, & then you can just OTA update as normal :).

Hope that addresses some of your concerns ;)!!

Enjoy.

Hi Arcticwolf
Brilliant! Very many thanks for explaining everything in easy to understand terms. I have decided to wait until Minix send out the latest amendment to FW003. But ,I appreciate your advice on just plugging it in now. Just being extra cautious and will wait a wee while.
I will report back when it is all set up.

This is a wee bit like Christmas as a child.....can't wait until Christmas day and will keep looking at the pressures under the tree.???

Known Bugs

We are aware of the following important issues and actively working to resolve them ASAP:

1. Automatic Refresh Rate Switch is missing
2. Certain formats not working correctly via HD audio pass-through
3. SAMBA

We shall release regular firmware updates to address these issues, along with other bugs that are discovered.

The HDMI CEC problem is not in the list - is it part of the package or will it be fixed later on?

it gives an error with using the burning tool

Make sure you follow all instructions (see post #29).
Also someone reported success with the previous USB burning tool version. See post #14 to get it.

I had the error via FOTA too, even after doing a factory reset. I might use USB flashing later if/when I have time, but Minix said they're looking into the problem as some people did manage to update with FOTA, so I'll wait until they had a chance to diagnose it.
Also, I'm too lazy to use USB flashing because I've got to retrieve the power supply from behind the TV unit :)
Actually, I just noticed that it's 5V, 3A, and same polarity (+ in the middle) as my Minix X8H Plus PSU that is lying around, so I suppose I could use that?

what a crap support for the devices

I never got update issues with my 2 non-Minix TV boxes: they never released any updates.
Thankfully, I managed to solve this problem (if only that was the only problem with them, I wasn't able to solve the fact that their hardware was crap) by getting rid of them; I've got 3 Minix boxes now.

The HDMI CEC problem is not in the list - is it part of the package or will it be fixed later on?

All we know for certain at this stage is that the HDMI/HDMI CEC issues some of us have experienced weren't specifically listed to be addressed in this latest update.

Please don't ask for dates or a changelog ahead of time, but further updates are planned relatively soon.

As & when MINIX are able to notify us of the next change or batch of changes, I'm sure they'll give everyone the heads up again as they did this time around :).

Just one question. Why do you need to do a factory reset to install Xplore?
Does doing a factory reset not remove FW003? and revert back to the factory version?

Factory Reset returns the device to a state with no user data and no user installed apps.
It does not affect the Firmware Version!

FOTA does not install X-plore. It does put the apk in preinstall apps in the system directory though!

If you want to use X-plore you can install it from the Play Store.

Or, providing you have updated via FOTA to FW003, using ES File Explorer go to Device/system/preinstall

I recently received a U22-XJ and it came FW002 out of the box.

I would recommend updating to FW003 immediately. The device functions so much better!

Even if you decide to wait, you will have to update to FW003 and then to FW004 as FOTA updates are consecutive unless MINIX provide a FOTA zip file.
