MINIX's 8K Media Hub is on its way

That's great news! I started with a G4 on the old old old forum and it's great to see a new Android box it's on its way! Please consider the "strength" of the HDMI output so it can handle long cables. It would be great to use with a projector.

8K60Hz 10-bit RGB or 4:4:4 is very challenging for the signal quality.

I think our design is ready for that.

We tested a product from another brand and it flickers very badly as soon as we set it to 8K50Hz or 8K60Hz...

What Android version will it ship with?

Guaranteed 3 big Android updates.
To be clear, does this mean 3 full version updates? E.g. Android 13 -> Android 16?

Also, you mentioned it being AOSP. Is there any chance an Android TV version will also release? I personally would prefer it.

Lastly, assuming the box will run Android 12 or newer, it will have automatic frame rate switching by default. Will you also offer automatic resolution switching? Or is that already a built-in feature in Android 12 as well?

I have been a Minix user for a very long time, all the way back to the 8X. Unlike others, I use my Minix box ONLY for watching downloaded videos, plus I have had a lot of issues with android on the Minix boxes. Sometime ago I discovered CoreELEC and have been a dedicated CoreELEC user since. I know you worked with CoreELEC to get it working on the U22XJ-Max. In fact, I was able to load CoreELEC on my U22XJ-Max on the day it arrived. I never even booted into android on the U22XJ-Max. My main reason for using CoreELEC over android was it solved soooo many android playback issues. It was no contest. Audio too, as far as I know.

I hope you will work with CoreELEC again to get the new box supported quickly.

Do you have any idea of what the projected release date might be?

@MINIX - Ken Do you have any update on the release of this new device please? Thank you
I think May 2024 we shall release it to the public, latest June 2024.
Hardware is done, we need 2-3 months to polish the software.
With OTA it doesn't need to be perfect, as you all know it's never perfect.
We make improvements based on customers' feedback and suggestions, which is an on-going process...

Hi guys, in the Soc description there's a lot of optional "features" like Dolby Vision, Dolby audio, DTS etc ...

The Soc

Can you tell us if those features will be included in the box ?

I am the creator of G4, X5 series, X7 series, X8 series, U1, U9, etc
Welcome back gh0st!
With the return of MINIX-Ken and the news he brought, many people returned to the site ;) (including me :giggle:)

Dolby ATMOS
Dolby Vision
HDR Vivid
Does it also support DTS-X?
Does it support HDR10+?
(or even IMAX?)

Please feel free to drop us more ideas
I was very happy to hear about the production of this product.
But the fact that you are communicating with the audience and asking for their opinions makes me happier.

1- Add playback via USB-C port.
2- Provide enough power to connect high capacity external hard drives.
3- Improve the visual design and interactive features in the interface.
4- Add remote control with new design and backlight.
5- And most importantly, set a cheap price for it. ☺️

Will it have Widevine L1 certification to allow for HD and 4K playback in streaming apps such as Netflix?
We always have L1 in our boxes since X8 series, this does not mean Netflix UHD would work.
Netflix certification works with CHIPSET level, and S928 is not one of those.
Also, "ESN" is required.

Nowadays, almost all 4K TVs come with Netflix built-in, this is no longer our purpose of building a new hub.

We do things that TVs don't do, or can't do well.
