There's only a bug in that you'll have to turn it off and on again when you reboot your box if you need root; personally, I don't need root all the time, only when I update the host file.

i would love Magisk as my TV app does not work without the root hiding feature

and you need to do this as well otherwise the minix tries to force some kind of HDR/DV output. I can assure you that they have been made aware of this issue.

Many thanks. But it is strange that when the colours were wishy washy as shown in the image I posted, that, without adjusting anything, I plugged in the U9h and also two other good quality stbs and the colours were great.

So, are you now saying that I should turn off sdr to hdr and also hdr to sdr even though my tv has Dolby vision. Or does my tv not enter the isue on this occasion ?

Turn off :
HDR to SDR and SDR to HDR

Check your TV firmware.
There is something wrong with your setup, as said both FW002 and FW003 should work fine.
It works fine for me.

Last but not least you can do a minix factory reset and reset your TV settings (factory)

EDIT: i saw that you have already reset your TV (in post 90)

What you can also do is :
-change hdmi cable/port
-Try with another TV if you have

Thank you for all the info. I have reset the box but have not changed hdmi ports/ cables. All seems to be ok. I think because the initial view of the launcher page was totally different colours than previous boxes, I played around with the tv colour/picture settings to darken the image slightly and make the script better definition. Anyway all back to normal now that I have compared my launcher image to that of one that was posted here today by (push 87) I think. If it is the wrong person, then I apologise.

I beilive so yes
My TV is also HDR and DV compliant and I have had to turn all these options off or disabled in DV case .Playing media files with HDR works fine but my assesment is that DV on the minix U22 is fubar !

When you play a HDR mdeia file on the U22 the TV should automatically detect this ( if set up correctly) and go into HDR mode. Unforunatley it does not if you play a DV media file. This need fixing by minix IMO

Thank you for an easy to understand explanation. I will set up as you recommend. I am still using the U9h until we receive the latest update. I just hope that it installs by OTA. Having to go the alternative route by usb burning tool is going to cause me problems and will have to locate a local IT expert to do it, as I do not have a windows based machine.
 
Hello, sorry if I'm not posting at the right place, please feel free to move / remove this post if that's the case.

A few things I saw on FW003:
- I completely disabled Dolby Vision (Dolby Vision disable in the Minix settings > Display > Screen resolution
However once in a while after restarting the box, the setting will be enabled again

- The colour space in that same section will sometimes switch back to 420 by itself (I set it to 422) after restarting

- HDR10+ will not be recognised by Kodi except if the SDR to HDR option is set to on in the Minix > Display settings (however my TV will not consider it as HDR10+ but only as HDR. There is an indicator on the TV to confirm it).
If that SDR to HDR option is not enabled, HDR10+ videos will look washed out as if someone is trying to play an HDR file on an SDR screen.
Did the same test on the box with CoreElec and the HDR10+ is properly recognised by the TV (with the HDR10+ indicator on)

- In device preferences > Sound. I Only enable AC3 and DTS. However once in a while after restarting, the E-AC3 switch is enabled

Appears v003 is not available via OTA. I am on v002 and after clearing data/cache for FOTA app and a restart, the FOTA version check result is that v002 is the latest?

Assume v003 has been pulled from OTA till problem installing is resolved.

Note, this is not a complaint, just info sharing.
 
Sorry but this experience is more akin to a self-help support group fixing a product that was not ready for sale – probably an element of truth but let’s get the U22 doing what we’d expected !

Successfully installed new firmware but reluctant to experience the agony of reinstalling all my apps.

  1. Nova launcher still not working – can’t drag shortcuts from the drawer (recent apps yes) and widgets just not possible. Mousewheel should scroll pages but does nothing.
  2. Location setting – won’t enable … should be able to enable WiFi location but doesn’t. Important for me as I need to be able to monitor signal from multiple routers.
  3. Mouse cursor click – there seems to be something odd going on. It seems the cursor click action is ignored until the cursor is to the left of the action button / menu. For example, on a pop-up dialog with an OK … moving the cursor over the highlighted area, the cursor changes to the handpointer only on the left side. I think that it’s happening everywhere.
  4. Page shortcuts get a large transparent focus box that I don’t want to see – can’t get rid of it either until I select the next page and the go back.
  5. The U9 functionality was what I was expecting – where’s RemoteIME ? This support was very handy and something that I really like to see supported.

All in all a bit of a shame – my experience with the U1 and U9 has been great – actually all the wayback through X7 & X8 too.

I recall the first time I set up a U22-XJ, at the first questions I did the mistake of refusing Location, as I thought it would be as simple as with a U1 or a U9-H, and then I had some trouble to put it back. But I did, and therefore I know it works, I just can't remeber the exact steps, but it goes by turning location permission in your Google account, and then resetting permissions to check location at the app level (in the same More Settings, Location folder of the box there is a shortcut mentioned App-level pemission.)

Thanks for that ... bit more persistance and I found that enabling Google Location Accuracy then allows Location to be enabled. Oddly mousewheel is now working in Nova to scroll pages - hopefully not related. (Mind you many years ago I had a Ford Cortini and turning the radio on also switched on the sidelights !)
 
I'm trying to stick with Nova Launcher. I never liked the Minix Metro Launcher and Launcher 3 isn't as customizable as Nova. This firmware can't decide if it wants you to use the D-Pad or air mouse. Whenever prompts come up with the options for "cancel" or "okay" the firmware decides to mess up and demand D-Pad input.

Same issue here and the No issue. And on some items in the menu, the mouse click just does nothing. Perhaps when we get the latest update that Minix is working on, these issues will be resolved.

Nice to know that you managed to put Location to work. Regarding the having to reinstall all the apps, I am presuming you installed the firmware with the file and the Amlogic flashing tool.

Just in case someone else happens to drop by reading this, there is a good hint from @ArcticWolf explained in the following link (read #15 and #18), it concerned the procedure for the U9-H, but worked so far for the U22-XJ. It allows the firmware to install from the file, keeping the apps untouched. Without any garanties that it will work forever and ever, but it might be worth trying it in a similar situation in which apps are previously installed to be kept:

I see that one outstanding issue is "Automatic Refresh Rate Switch is missing"
Could it be what prevents the box from playing HDR10+ properly? My understanding is that HDR10+ provides metadata for each frame, hence not being able to adapt the refresh rate maybe preventing HDR10+ to work properly, or is that completely unrelated?
